Art: New life for the Saint Devota altarpiece

The Saint Devota altarpiece, which dates from the 16th century, was commissioned by Isabelle Grimaldi, the wife of Honoré I. This tempera on wood, executed with egg-based paint, was first displayed in St Nicholas' church, before it was moved to Monaco Cathedral. After two weeks of intense restoration, the restorers have returned this altarpiece to its former glory. The Department of Cultural Affairs and the Diocese decided to install it in a climatic chamber with a window, to protect the work.
