Monaco Ocean Week: Toxic micro-algae
A conference on ostreopsis toxic micro-algae was held in the Principality as part of Monaco Ocean Week, and attended by scientists from 30 different countries. These microscopic algae, which normally live in the warm waters of tropical seas, have been observed in the Mediterranean, particularly during the summer. The aim of this mission is to monitor and manage the algal blooms in order to limit their impact on the marine environment and health. Two methods for removing the algae were presented to scientists. In six months’ time, the initial results obtained from these methods will be published.
