Dubai: the world’s first humanitarian logistics hub
Created in the 2000s by the Government of Dubai, the International Humanitarian City is the world’s first humanitarian logistics hub. The site covers an area of more than 100,000 square metres, enabling nine UN agencies and some 40 NGOs to respond rapidly to humanitarian disasters. Last November, H.S.H. Prince Albert II had an opportunity to visit this unique facility located 20 kilometres from Al Maktoum Airport and Jebel Ali Port. From here, in the event of natural disasters, NGOs can be on the ground in Africa, the Middle East or even Asia within just a few hours.
