Paris: award of Grands Prix for Marine Science
On Tuesday 2 April 2019, the Grands Prix for Marine Science for the last three years were presented by H.S.H. Prince Albert II at Monaco’s Embassy in Paris, located in the 16th arrondissement. The ceremony was attended by Jean-Robert Pitte, President of the Société de Géographie, which will shortly celebrate its bicentenary. Founded in 1821, the society is today considered to be one of France’s oldest learned societies in the field of geography and is acknowledged as the doyenne of the world’s geographical societies. Prince Albert I was a prominent member of the society, as was Prince Rainier III, who founded the Grands Prix for Marine Science to mark its 150th anniversary in 1971.
