St. Barbara's Day: a tribute to the firefighters who fell at the front
On Tuesday 4 December, Monaco Fire and Emergency Service organised a day of festivities in the Principality in honour of Saint Barbara, its patron saint. A religious ceremony was celebrated by Monsignor Barsi, Archbishop of Monaco, at the Parish Church of Saint Nicolas, in the presence of dignitaries from the Principality, H.S.H. Prince Albert II and the Authorities. A new statue of Saint Barbara was blessed by Monsignor Barsi during the Mass. In addition, a bronze statue, created as a tribute to the fourteen Monaco firefighters who fell at the front during the Great War (1914-1918) was also unveiled in the Place du Campanin, near the Fontvieille fire station.
