CORONAVIRUS: restrictions on movement at night in Principality of Monaco from Sunday evening

At the instruction of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and in line with the measures taken by the Alpes-Maritimes Prefecture, the Prince’s Government is supplementing the measures introduced by the decision of 17 March covering temporary regulation of movement by introducing a restriction on movement at night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. This will apply from 10 p.m. on Sunday 22 March until further notice.

Given that excessive individual movements are likely to accelerate the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic throughout the country, this measure supplements the arsenal of previous measures introduced to contain the spread.

In concrete terms, it prohibits the following personal movements between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.:

  • to purchase supplies required for work and essential supplies from local shops and businesses that are authorised to remain open to the public
  • brief outings close to home for individual physical exercise and to walk pets

Shops should no longer admit members of the public after 9.30 p.m. to enable their customers to comply with these measures.

These restrictions on movement at night will not apply to personnel duly authorised to travel as a result of the essential nature of their work, for example: health and care workers, security forces and cleaners, or anyone else who has an imperative need to travel, such as to provide assistance to a vulnerable person.

The police will enforce strict compliance with these measures and will be authorised to record an offence against anyone in breach of them, with fines of up to €200.
