As part of biological control measures to combat pine processionary caterpillars, a significant proportion of the Principality’s pine trees is to be treated preventively, by spraying bacillus thuringiensis.
This bacterium is a natural insecticide that specifically targets the caterpillars. It is non-toxic for humans and animals, and does not harm auxiliary insects such as ladybirds, trichogramma, and bees.
If the weather conditions are favourable (no wind or rain), the operation will be carried out from Monday 28 November to Thursday 1 December 2022 inclusive, using motorised spraying equipment mounted on trucks.
Trees in the following zones will be sprayed:
- Monday 28 November 2022 => Fontvieille: Jardin de l’Ane, Rose Garden pond, Stade Louis II, Port roundabout, Avenue des Papalins roundabout, Jardin de l’Ours, Heliport/Embankment roundabout;
- Tuesday 29 November 2022 => Monaco-Ville: Place du Palais, Sainte-Barbe, Place de la Visitation, Esplanade des Prisons, Cathedral, Jardins Saint Martin;
- Wednesday 30 November 2022 => Monte-Carlo and Moneghetti: Avenue Pasteur (uphill direction), Villa Paloma, Jardins du Trocadéro, Annonciade children’s play area, Collège Charles III Chapel, Tour Odéon, Avenue de Grande-Bretagne, Expressway, Saint Roman roundabout;
- Thursday 1 December 2022 => Larvotto: Avenue Princesse Grace, Saint Roman crossroads.
The treatments will be applied between 4 am and 10 am. Users are informed by notices posted by the Department of Urban Amenities.
