Le département des Alpes-Maritimes placé en vigilance rouge

The Prince’s Government is urging Monegasque nationals and residents to be careful this Sunday 1 December in light of a RED ALERT for rain and flooding that has been issued for the Alpes-Maritimes Department.

Precautions will need to be taken to ensure that everyone stays safe during severe storms which are expected to bring nearly 200 mm of rain per square metre during the early afternoon.

The first consequence of the weather warning is that the Monaco–PSG football match scheduled to take place at 9 pm this evening has been postponed to a later date.

The Police Department and Fire and Emergency Service have been fully mobilised to avert any danger and intervene if required within the Principality.

In parallel, the Monegasque authorities would like to draw people’s attention to the importance of observing some basic precautions to reduce as far as possible the risk of accidents during this day of bad weather.

Monegasque nationals and residents are asked to:

-       Remove from building balconies any items which could fall or be blown away;

-       Avoid any non-essential travel (on foot or by car) outside the Principality;

-       Avoid exposed areas such as the seafront, parks, gardens and construction sites;

-       Refrain from parking their cars under trees.

The emergency services will be on alert to provide assistance, and can be contacted if required. From a mobile phone, dial 112 in an emergency. Caution will be more important than ever during this afternoon’s extreme weather.
