Focus Info: Fight against sickle-cell disease
Sickle cell is a little-known disease for which treatment in Africa is still neglected. Combatting it is one of the Department of International Cooperation’s five key programmes. Monegasque aid takes several forms: support for national patient associations, facilitating networking between health professionals in six African countries, and developing a medical treatment guide for sickle cell disease under the auspices of the Department of International Cooperation. Thanks to funding from Monaco, a Treatment Centre for children and adolescents with sickle cell disease has also been built in Dakar.
